Joint’s a Hoppin’ is a swing dance social event held on the last Friday of the month (unless otherwise indicated).
The aim is to provide a regular opportunity for swing dancers to strut their stuff in a comfortable sociable environment. Download the Joint’s a Hoppin’ flyer for an up-to-date events schedule.
You are welcome whether you wish to dance lindy hop, balboa, shag, jive or just have a drink and listen to the music typifying its heyday (swing, jump blues and rhythm & blues). Expect recorded music from the likes of Teddy Wilson, Billie Holliday, Louis Armstrong, Sidney Bechet, Slim & Slam, Ruth Brown, Goree Carter, Wynonie Harris, The Washboard Rhythm Kings, Ella Fitzgerald, Louis Jordan, Bix Biderbecke, Coleman Hawkins, Fats Waller, Big Joe Turner, Louis Prima, etc., etc., plus a smattering of your favourite R&R numbers.
Joint’s a Hoppin’ aims to provide live music events whenever possible, but this will depend on the level of dancer support.
For live band events, entry is £16 on the door (£15 for WESC members) and £8 for students (valid NUS card required). Admission for record hops is payable on the door in cash; £9 (£8 for WESC members) and £4 for students. Particular events may be priced differently, according to circumstances. Costs include a supplement of £1 (paid to WESC) for all non-members of the club/venue (WESC).
